TSMC, the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company, produces chips that other firms design, a model called a dedicated foundry. Chip designers send their blueprints to its fabs, which turn them into processors for phones, PCs, servers and cars. Nearly all production happens in Taiwan, though TSMC has been building new fabs in Arizona, Kumamoto in Japan and Dresden in Germany. Morris Chang started TSMC in 1987, and American investors trade its shares as depositary receipts.
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Limited is listed on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker TSM. It is part of the Technology sector, in the Semiconductors industry, and is based in Hsinchu City, Taiwan.
